Growing Optimism

Growing Optimism among persons and communities is like Planting Trees WITH the Planet.

“A tree has roots in the soil yet reaches to the sky. It tells us that in order to aspire we need to be grounded and that no matter how high we go it is from our roots that we draw sustenance. It is a reminder to all of us who have had success that we cannot forget where we came from. It signifies that no matter how powerful we become in government or how many awards we receive, our power and strength and our ability to reach our goals depend on the people, those whose work remain unseen, who are the soil out of which we grow, the shoulders on which we stand”
― Wangari Maathai, Kenya, Nobel Peace Prize award

“Optimism is rooted in your soles as much as it is in your soul”
– Dr. Stephen W. Hobbs

For this optimistic connection among persons and trees, whether local or global, the Dinner Optimist Club of Calgary embarked on a fund-raising project to support two JOI (Junior Optimist International) clubs in Uganda (identified below) to plant trees and grow vegetables. And, to grow optimism among the members!

1)) The trees are sold as seedlings to plant for shade and fruit/nuts/seeds for sale — Kupsya Junior Optimist Club in Uganda

2)) The vegetables are sold as produce to member’s families and to their communities — Karabuni Junior Optimist Club in Uganda

The business operations for both JOI projects educate the JOI members in entrepreneurial thinking and action while raising funds for the operation of the clubs.

Growing Optimism eBook/Flip Magazine for Sale

The Growing Optimism pdf/flipbook was created by the Dinner Optimist Club of Calgary to encourage and collect tree-related contributions (whatever the media) from Optimists International Members, and family and friends far and wide.

Through the curation of the stories, pictures, videos, and other media formats, content is edited by a Volunteer Group of Dinner Optimist Club of Calgary Members who produce an eBook/FlipBook for sale. The funds raised support the programs of the Dinner Club and the JOI clubs in Uganda.

As time moves along, as more trees are planted, as more produce is sold, as the stories of OI and JOI root around the world, the Growing Optimism project will deliver quarterly products (like the eBook and T-shirts) for sale as a fundraiser through direct purchase links. We will share more as the weeks and months unfold.
